The Last Hurdle.
Gong Xi Fa Cai to all you people out there celebrating Chinese New Year and
a good Linux year of the dragon.
Okay, this is my last hurdle, after this I'm completely switched over to
Linux. I finally realized that my PCMCIA modem (V90) doesn't work properly
on my Acer TM512T. The following happened with Slink, Corellinux and
Windows 98:
- when connecting to my ISP the connection comes up with the right flow
rate 11500
- after about 8-50 kb of upstreaming data communication stops
- soon after pppd dies suddenly
I checked the pcmcia-HOWTO and the modem-HOWTO and in the latter I found a
remark that might be similar with my situation: faulty flow control where
no stop signal is send to the modem which in turn overflows the modem's
buffer after a while. The author of the modem-HOWTO then wrote: "The fix
was to enable flow control by putting into the init string an
enable-flow-control command for the modem."
Q1: How to I check that indeed my modem's flow control is not working
properly?
Q2: What is the enable-flow-control command and where do I put it in the
init string?
Q3: If I'm wrong in my analysis what might it be then?
Is there a modem expert in the house? Any hints are appreciated.
