I really don't know anything about it.
I've been testing the boot floppies and noticed this in /etc/fstab:

# Uncomment the following entry if you use a 2.2.x or newer kernel for
# UNIX98-style pty handling
#none           /dev/pts        devpts  gid=5,mode=620                  0      0
