Possible, but unlikely. Signal 11 errors are typically a sign of bad or
badly configured hardware (see www.bitwizard.nl/sig11). It could be a
compiler error if it is repeatable at the exact same source file.

Most of these problems have been fixed by now. I've had no problems with gcc
2.95.[12] compiled 2.2.x kernels.

"apt-get install gcc272" and fiddle with the kernel's top-level Makefile.
