great x configuration ?

There used to be a file called /usr/X11R6/X11/doc/README.Config, where is
it now?

Also there is some confusion about the location where the file XF86Config
produced by XF86Setup is saved, could abybody enlighten about that

Here was the problem:

I start XF86Setup
choose the card in card settings
choose the monitor, enter the correct hsync and vsync
   (i.e. ver_refres = 30-64, hor_refresh=47-104)
  select 1280x1024 and/or 1152x864 and/or 1024x768 and smaller for video
   modes

BUT...

when I save and exit , in my XF86Config file there is only one modeline
   Modeline "1024x768" 65.00 1024 1032 1176 1344 768 771 777
806 -hsync -vsync
nothing in regard to 1280x1024 or 1152x864

by the way,

So right now I'll try this advice and try setting 1280x1024 @ 24-bit
