Re: Debian Linux vs BSD

I'm currently using OpenBSD 2.5, FreeBSD 3.3-STABLE, NetBSD 1.4.1, RedHat Linux 6.1
and just lately Debian 2.1. I don't know much about Debian yet aside from those that
I know about Linux in general and RedHat in particular. What I have done with Debian
so far is installing it via NFS and using apt-get to upgrade it to the latest stable
release. My experience is that I can bet my life in Linux and BSD. However I have a
preference on which OS to deploy depending on the application. For secure services I
would prefer OpenBSD. But OpenBSD does not support SMP, so at certain point I would
move to FreeBSD first then to Linux. SMP on Linux is better than FreeBSD. On the
stability side I haven't have a single crash on either FreeBSD or OpenBSD even under
heavy load. I had twice on RedHat 6.0 for the same hardware. As for the cool factor
I'm for Linux. Cool with serious technical strength.

In summary all of the above Unix variant are very good. Not a single one dominates in
every setup or application. That's why I use all of them. The only way to know it is
to try it.
