I thought 2.2 series was supposed to get this right.
Add an append line to /etc/lilo.conf, as in the attached example, and then
run lilo to update the boot sector.
$ cat /etc/lilo.conf
boot=/dev/hda3
root=/dev/hda3
install=/boot/boot.b
map=/boot/map
vga=normal
delay=20
# Linux
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.10
label=Linux
append="mem=96m aic7xxx=ultra parport=auto"
