And for Debian, look into the kernel-package package. You don't have to
worry about 6 different make commands.
# make-kpkg clean
# make menuconfig (or config, or xconfig, or oldconfig)
# make-kpkg --rev version-hostname.revision kernel-image
(e.g. make-kpkg --rev 2.2.11-anomie.1 kernel-image)
And, if you use kernel modules like alsa or pcmcia,
# make-kpkg --rev version-hostname.revision modules-image
You'll end up with a deb that you can install with dpkg --install.
