I can't help you but I can commiserate, and describe my setup.  I
use a Microsoft serial mouse on ttyS1.

In text mode lynx with gpm running the mouse, cut and paste works
well. With X, I can use the mouse cut and paste with almost any x
app, and with pine inside x, mouse works fine. But with X and lynx,
the mouse appears to be disabled.  There is no mouse cursor at all,
and no cut and paste.

I have no mouse cut and paste in Chimera2 as well, but I have cut
and paste in Netscape. I'm mystified.
