Samba with 2.2.x kernels

Hello,

trying to mount a samba volume on my debian box fails with

      smbmount-2.1.x //Vincent/user /mnt -U pewe
load_client_codepage: filename /etc/codepages/codepage.850 does not exist.
      Added interface ip=193.96.166.51 bcast=193.96.166.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Server time is Fri Aug 27 10:34:15 1999
      Timezone is UTC+2.0
Session setup failed for username=pewe workgroup=WORKGROUP myname=WINONA destname=VINCENT ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
You might find the -U, -W or -n options useful
Sometimes you have to use `-n USERNAME' (particularly with OS/2)
Some servers also insist on uppercase-only passwords

The Access denied message sounds a bit strange cause the volume can be
mounted on a 2.0.33 kernel based system (SUSE Linux) with smbmount
version 2.0.2. BTW: The smbmount from slinks smbfsx package reports to
    be version 1.9.18p10 (?!).

        TIA -- Peter
