Check out the kernel-doc-2.0.36 package (if you have installed the stock
slink kernel-image-2.0.36 package). Once that is installed, check 
/usr/doc/kernel-doc-2.0.36/Documentation/ for info. From a Deja News
search for "NetGear Linux" (http://www.deja.com), I discovered that
NetGeat cards use the tulip driver.

BTW, Debian stock kernels compile ALL drivers as modules, so the only
reason you wouldn't need a custom kernel is if you needed an exotic
feature like IP Masquerading.
