In /etc/crontab I do this
30 5 * * * root nice -10 /root/bin/dodb 2>&1 > /dev/null
/root/bin/dodb
#!/bin/sh
# Ok lets update the locate database
updatedb --prunepaths='/tmp /proc /cdrom /mnt /var/spool' > /dev/null
2>&1
