Don, it really isn't clutter because a lot of people use various windows
clients and will see these problems. The other host probably worked
because it put user@hostname (most likely not fully qualified but with at
least a hostname) that was matched in one of /etc/hosts, DNS, or NIS.
I really have no idea on the configuration of the mail clients. Eudora
will attempt a lookup of its IP address to discover its hostname so it
reverse DNS is configured properly, it will find its correct hostname.
Many people using private address space (10/8, 172.16/16, 192.168.x/24
nets) do not properly configure reverse zones for DNS on their private
nets.
