put these in your .muttrc:

source ~/.mutt_aliases
set alias_file=~/.mutt_aliases

and .mutt_aliases (or whatever you choose) should contain lines like:

alias aslist afterstep@linuxcenter.com (AfterStep)
alias deb debian-user@lists.debian.org
alias Sise mrspice@javanet.com (Sise, Paul)
alias foo Foo Bar foo@fooland.com
alias group jnb1, mhall, boyd, gauthier, bahar
