Is this the gnome on gnomeftp.wgn.net or some similar mirror?  Or is it the
gnome that was distributed with the cheapbytes slink cd's?

When you run something like gmc from the commandline, do you get any error
messages (like cannot load libraries) or does it just start and quit?
