People who left debian in the past were frustrated with dselect.
There is a new app. It's aptly called 'apt'. Now the command
'apt-get install <package>' will download precompiled applications
+ dependencies from debian servers. Then 'dpkg -r <package>'
deletes it. It is quite easy.
I use freebsd as well, and ports is not bad on installation. It is
upgrade and uninstall that is a bit trickier in freebsd.
