If you can boot into a dos system via floppy or whatever you can use
msdos's fdisk with the /mbr option, 'fdisk /mbr' and it will write a
clean msdos mbr to the disk.  See section 2.4 of the LILO mini-HOWTO
for other methods of reconstructing the mbr.
