lost arks haircuts backups etc

the RAid documentation reccomends regular scheduled backups, so I  was thinking that though disk mirroring sounds cool its maybe  just a little system resource heavy for your basic twin ide desktop  pc.

Backups
Can anyone share a simple cron.weekly shell script that will copy all my etc config files and $home .dotfiles somewhere discreet? Whats that got to do with haircuts? Well the hairdresser said get it cut every two months man! (tweed coats are a bit passe too)
