Slink w/Panasonic PCMCIA cdrom.
i just got a free 5x86 100 8MB notebook..win95 was a dog so i wiped it o
ut..
i got the base of slink installed and booted up. pcmcia services
start..but i can't figure out how to get the cdrom working, or even what
device it would be.
win95 said it was a SCSI pcmcia card..linux says its a parallel PCMCIA
card.
specifically linux says -
unsupported card in socket 1
product info: "KME", "KXLC001", "00"
manfid: 0x0032, 0x0104 function: 3 (parallel)
and win95 said
Panasonic KXL001 (SCSI)
on I/O 0240-025F IRQ 3
i checked /proc/scsi/scsi and no devices are detected..ive tried mounting
/dev/scd0 and it doesnt recognize it iehter..according to the pcmcia howto
it *looks* like this card is a qlogic card..so i inserted the module..no
error..but still no device.
The drive is a Panasonic KXL-D720. I've checked www pages, news
groups..nothing seems to shed a bit of light on this. i only need this
cdrom to install the rest of slink..after that i can throw it away and
never see it again i don't care..unless someone knows another way of
installing slink? there is no modem or network card in this thing. and
copying package-by-package via floppy doesnt sound fun.
there is no identification on the pcmcia card itself other then "PAnasonic
PCMCIA card for CD-ROM player"
im confused as to what kind of interface it is..it must be scsi..linux
must be..wrong because there is a SCSI ID setting on the cdrom..is there a
way to hard code the device type into the pcmcia utils? this has only the
base system installed..so if i have to recompile something it will have to
be done on another machine ..with a completly different hardware/software
config.
help!
