I don't believe it has done anything; I've never had an install end up at
a" C:>" prompt, which makes me think something went wrong during the install.

What I'd recommend is to use DOS's FDISK and delete the D: partition
(assuming there's nothing on it you want to keep). I'd put all the Linux
files you mentioned into a directory on C:, say, "C:\debian". Then change
to that directory and run install.bat again. You should not be asked for a
kernel image file. If you are, you might want to re-download the linux and
root.bin files.

Also, you might give us more info on what the screenfuls of information
are. Does it get to the point where it asks if you want to use a color or
monochrome display for the install (the first point&click "gui" screen)?
Does it get to the partition step? etc.
