CR-563b
Hi! I'm trying to install Debian on an old Packard Bell that I
have acquired. It has a CR-563b (sbpcd module). I already
have Debian installed on another computer, and burned a cd image of
Slink with my CD-R. The MD5 checksummed OK, and I verified the CD-image
from my 24x reader and my 4x writer. The problem is that the PB's CD-ROM
fails intermittently. I randomly get errors extracting the base system.
Of the 5 times I've tried to install, several times I've gotten further
than the base system, only to have dselect crap out with kernel
i/o timeouts. FreeBSD exhibits similar behaviors when it is extracting
its 'bin dist' files.
Does anyone have any suggestions for diagnosing/fixing the problem,
or should I get a cheap ATAPI cdrom and hope the problems are fixed?
