Well, you could have a look at www.dhs.org (who took over many of the old
monolith.org domains) and get a hostname in their DNS service.

OR, you can find someone that HAS a domain already and has control over
the DNS for that domain and will give you a hostname out of their domain
and act as MX host for your domain. You would then collect your email from
their machine. There is no reason you HAVE to use your ISP for email.

You probably can not simply call your system sympatico.com because the IP
address will not match the hostname. Have a look at dhs.org
