libglib and libgtk 1.2

Hi all:

I have tried to upgrade to these libraries on Debian 2.1, but instead
of upgrading 1.12 dselect installed both versions, and now 1.2 appear
at the top of the dselect's window under

    ------- Obsolete/local Optional packages in section libs -------
 *** Opt libs     libglib1.2   1.2.1-1     <none>
 *** Opt libs     libgtk1.2    1.2.1-1     <none>


 *** Opt libs     libglib1.1   1.1.3-2     1.1.3-2     The GLib library of C

 *** Opt libs     libgtk1.1    1.1.2-2     1.1.2-2     The GIMP Toolkit set w

Note that I also have version 1 of libgtk installed somehow. Is
something wrong or I simply can't upgrade to libraries from a newer
version of Debian?
