Maybe you want to try pppd? I believe this works...
/usr/sbin/pppd 115200 /dev/ttyS3 connect chat "" ATZ OK ATDT<PhoneISP> CONNECT ""
...but you want to check.
/usr/bin/pon
/etc/chatscripts/provider
/etc/ppp/peers/provider
(others?)
