The usual reboot problems

Hi all,

I know this issue seems to be beating a
dead horse, but I have searched
the FAQs (and Faq-o-matic...I love that
name :-) and asked a number
of people and am still getting nowhere.

I am trying to install Debian on an IBM
Thinkpad 560x (dual boot with
w95 so I can install from hard disk).
When I create the boot floppies,
either through the install process OR
downloading floppies from the
debian site, it just continually
reboots. I have tried the tecra
floppies,
but no joy. The FAQ mentions bad
disks...well after going through a box
(10) of new disks, I would have my
doubts that is the problem.

Btw, Red Hat 5.2 installed quite
painlessly....the problem is I would
rather use Debian :-) I read a post
from someone who apparently
solved the problem on his thinkpad, but
I didn't understand his procedure
(graphed a different linux kernel or
something?) .... he also metioned
that a new person might get frustrated
and switch to something easier
to install, like Red Hat. That's a very
good point...I am not an expert,
but I am not a newbie either, and this
has me at my wits end.

Any help would be very appreciated! :-)
(The debian user list is much friendlier
and supportive than Red Hat's :-)

Robert
