SB16 PnP / ISApnp problem

I'm trying to help a friend get his SB16 pnp working. I guess I have to use isapnp, cause it won't recognize the 16 bit DMA channel. It's set up w/ the same settings he uses in windows with sound compiled-in to the kernel. The following message appears on startup:
Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error?

cat /proc/dma says :
oskar@thiburtus:~$ cat /proc/dma
 1: Sound Blaster8
 4: cascade

But there should be a SB on channel 3 as well.
So does anyone have a working isapnp.conf file that I can look at, or some other ideas? thanks in advance
