Support for the Ensoniq chipset cards is new in 2.2 kernels (it's been in
2.1 for a while).

Hmm, I didn't think these cards had the hardware to support straight .au's
(uLaw), but I guess they do.

Have you tried turning the volume up? (Just checking...) You can echo
digits into /proc, or use a package such as xmix or xmixer if you're
running X to control the volume. I assume you've already checked this out,
but just in case.
