You can use different timeouts for top level mount directories
(mountpoint in auto.master(5)).  You put options in the /etc/auto.master

# /etc/auto.master
/misc   /etc/auto.misc
/rmd    /etc/auto.rmd   -t 30
/ang    /etc/auto.ang   -t 1800
/bri    /etc/auto.bri   -t 1800
