The Debian mailing lists already ARE available a newsgroups but they are just not transmitted over the general Usenet. You have to ask someone that carries them. Also, postings to the newsgroups are not gatewayed back into the mailing list to avoid problems. They have been available this way for a long time ... I have been carrying them for almost two years.
