... has nothing to do with this one.  Your first point is addressed
quite nicely by Manoj's README in the kernel-package docs.  Your second
point is a matter of semantics between using make-kpkg or not, and
therefore isn't really worth debating.

I "grew up" with Slackware too; I find the ability to put the kernel and
its associated modules in a deb file, but then I use one machine to
compile kernels for the various machines we have, since it's much
faster.
