PPP problem using hamm

when i type in pon it dials my ISP and logs in fine then like 30 seconds
later it disconnects heres what it says when i type in plog
pppd[129] Serial connection established
pppd[129] Using interface ppp0
pppd[129] LPC: Timeout sending config-requests
pppd[129] Connection terminated
pppd[129] Receive serial link is not 8-bit clean:
pppd[129] Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
pppd[129] Hangup (SIGHUP)
pppd[129] Exit

any suggestions?
