Problem with SMTP

Having previously has smail, fetchmail and procmail working perfectly
I now - after having had to re-install Debian - cannot get fetchmail
to work. The error message "fetchmail: SMTP connect to (null) failed"
keeps on appearing, in spite of my having reconfigured smail with
smailconfig --force. Ifconfig and route -n seem to show that all is as
it should be, and .fetchmailrc is bog standard. One thing: my ISP
changed his server setup from having wyenet.co.uk for both incoming
and outgoing mail to having wallace.wyenet.co.uk for pop3 and
gromit.wyenet.co.uk for SMTP. The former is of course set in
.fetchmailrc as "poll wallace.wyenet.co.uk", but is there somewhere
one should also set for SMTP?

Probably an obvious answer, but I seem to be going round in ever
decreasing circles, so any help gratefully received. My machine/host
name is neptune, and full address is atheris@neptune.wyenet.co.uk.

TIA

Adrian Monk
