Does Linux support Promise Technology Ultra33 Hard Disk Controller?

1. I have been searching many Linux Web sites trying to find out if
Linux supports the Promise Technology Ultra33 Hard Disk Controller card.
 I installed this card because my older bios wouldn't properly support
large hard drives.  I have found conflicting statements.  Some documents
state that Kernels 2.0.35 and later support this controller, others say
no, others say there is a patch.  Any comments on this would be
appreciated.

2. How can I determine which Kernel is incorporated in a particular
Debian release?

3. Any opinions on which Web site is best for up to date Linux hardware
support information?
