Consider libc5 (or libc) as obsolete and carried for legacy reasons. Libc6
(or glibc) is the more modern libc and is a step toward making binaries
between different types of Unix on Intel and other platforms more
compatable. I suggest that you actually have both on your system because
there are many useful programs still compiled against libc5.
