squake behaving strangely

Dear all,

I have two problems with squake:

1: you have to be root for it to run:

/etc/suid.conf has the following line:
squake /usr/games/squake.real root root 755

which was made by chmoding /usr/games/squake.real as advised

suidregister has been run, but when I run quake except as root:
$ squake -nosound /nocdaudio
Added packfile ./id1/pak0.pak (339 files)
Added packfile ./id1/pak1.pak (85 files)
PackFile: ./id1/pak1.pak : gfx/pop.lmp
Playing registered version.
PackFile: ./id1/pak0.pak : gfx.wad
Console initialized.
UDP Initialized
Exe: 15:28:15 Aug 7 1997
 8.0 megabyte heap
PackFile: ./id1/pak0.pak : gfx/palette.lmp
PackFile: ./id1/pak0.pak : gfx/colormap.lmp
svgalib: Cannot get I/O permissions.

Secondly, when running as root, I can play fine, but if I join a TCP/IP
game, then my controls don't work (using defaults)

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks,

Matthew
