You shouldn't need an LD_LIBRARY_PATH at all (ever, actually, unless you
install some libraries in a very oddball place.) You could try using the
staroffice installer (in contrib/editors). Based on the depends: line
for the installer, you should also check that you have: libc5 (>=
5.4.4-0), xlib6, xpm4.7, and libg++27.
