I keep hearing this, but haven't f0ound it to be so.  We just ordered a machine from gateway with no OS, right off their web page.  Not all modelse have this as a listed option, but they're there.  In this case, it was a dual P-II machine.

>From talking to the rep, it would be possible to order other machines without OS as well.  And no, they didn't charge us for windows; it was about $100 less with no OS.
