	The scroll light is supposed to come on.  Your Linux is working fine, so
for some reason, your copy of angband isn't.  Are you using a copy you
compiled yourself or a precompiled version from some package.  Is it the
latest version (2.83)?  I've allways compiled my own version, and have never
had a problem with the ^S command.  Weird...
