How to upgrade from smail to exim?

Hi all!

If I try to install exim I get the following:

 exim conflicts with mail-transport-agent
  smail provides mail-transport-agent and is installed.


I found this ok, but If I try to remove smail other packages also depends
on it, what is the right way to upgrade?
