I think it is done by default (unless you have changed considerbly the config files)

$ grep -A2 RING /var/log/mgetty/mg_ttyS1.log.0
05/07 22:24:04 yS1  waiting for ``RING'' ** found **
05/07 22:24:04 yS1  waiting for ``RING''
05/07 22:24:14 yS1  timeout in chat script, waiting for `RING'
05/07 22:24:14 ##### phone stopped ringing (rings=1)

(That one rang once before I answered manualy)
