Of course.

Nope, it doesn't delete the older ones. However, apt-get clean will clear
out the directory (in fact, the dselect method does this after a
completely successfuly install run). This may change in future versions,
we've been working on getting it to install everything correctly before
worrying about the smaller stuff :)
