Yes, it is as long as Linux will be the only operating system on the
device. There are certian risks involved with this, though because if
you fill that partition, the entire system might become unuseable. You are
well advised to put /var (at least) on a separate partition. You should
also consider putting /usr on a different partition too if you do any
software development.
