Sure ... but you will never be able to contact another system on the
internet except by IP address.  At the very least you should enter your
ISP's nameservers.  By running a nameserver on the local net you will 
speed things up a little when going to frequently visited sites or sending
email.  It is trivial to configure ... it is all done by answering the
menu questions. Just have a list of your ISP's nameservers handy.

If you skip installing bind, remember to install your ISP's namerver
address(es) in /etc/resolv.conf or enter their address during the config
when it asks for the address of your nameserver.
