I would get 3 programs to do this. A POP3 client (PopTart or whatever),
procmail and pine. Use procmail to sort your hundreds of messages into
folders (I've got a folder for each mailing list I'm on) and to filter
spam (well, help filter it anyway). Then use pine to read the mail.
You'll need to write a short script that downloads you mail with the POP3
client and feeds the mail file to procmail for sorting but that's pretty
easy.
