locale problems

Every time I run a perl program, I get the following message:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LANG = "us"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

Similarly, when I run xterm, I get the following message:

Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged

Anyone have any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks,

Behan
