two scsi cards (2940 and 1542)

Hi,

I and a friend of mine are trying to set a Debian/Linux box with
two scsi cards (AIC 2940UW(pci - hard disk) and AHA1542 (isa - tape) and
I'm having trouble in making kernel detecting the aha1542.
I recompiled the kernel with support for both cards and when
I try to insert the module manually, w/o parameters, I get an
Device busy. If I try w/ i/o address in command line, e.g.,
# insmod aha1542 0x330
or
# insmod aha1542 0x340
my prompt do not return.
Besides an incorrect i/o port I had tryied, what else could
I do to have my tape and hd been detected?
