Re: Active v.s. Passive hubs



I think the difference is that a passive hub simply passes through
whatever it gets.  An active hub retimes everything.  In other words, an
active hub acts like eight separate NIC cards while a passive hub acts
like eight coax connections on a thin net.  Take several base2->baseT
tranceivers and you have a passive hub ... several NICS on a backplane and
you have an active hub.
