Netscape Comm. 4.03
Hi,
Now that I have gotten ppp to work, (thanks to several members of this
list), I am free to play with my new version of Netscape. However, Netscape
and Debian are not playing well together these days. I was just wondering
if anyone else has had problems with Netscape 4.03 (or any 4.0x).
These aren't mere bugs, they're pretty bad. Netscape has a total
heart attack when you tell it to stop trying to read a page if the network
link has been broken. Then, sometimes when I exit Netscape, it screws the
entire OS! It kills my login, I can't login to X, and I can't even login to
a ttyp!! If I try to login it does a couple of things, and immediately kicks
me out. I don't usually start and stop Netscape during a session, but it
would be nice to know if I were going to exit from it, that I could without
a catastrophe! Fortunately, the machine does still respond to Cntl-Alt-Del,
so I can shut it down safely and reboot. Otherwise, I think Netscape 4.03
would get the boot.
I am tempted to switch back to a stable 3.x version. Anyone have
any advice either way? Netscape also seems to like to play with my
background colors in X when I start it up.
Thanks,
