* Formal call for the removal of Bruce Perens *

Enough is enough.

It is time for Bruce Perens to step down form the leadership position, and an
interim leader take his place until a new leader can be chosen at the formal
election.

I state the following facts as reasons:

Bruce has continually censored those people on the lists that have questioned the
direction of the project and his authority. (I being one of them, this is the 3rd email
account I've had to use this month and just had to repost much of my mail)

Bruce has made decisions for the project on this own that our outside of his scope
of authority, and contrary to policy. For instance the now infamous revision
number changes, which by Bruces own admission, was to appease commercial
CD vendors.

Bruce has also began 'sucking up' various copyrights of materiel involved in the
Debian project as well as the Debian name itself, by his corporation SPI Inc. I can
only infer the worst intentions by actions like this. He has refused to state what
will happen to the control of this corporation, and these copyrights, should
someone else be elected project leader. Again, one can only infer bad intentions
by his lack of response.

Bruce has stated he owns this project, and has taken it upon himself who he will
allow and not allow to participate in it. (Myself being one of those who is banished)
It is outside of his authority, contrary to policy, and just plain arrogant when it
comes to the point that Debian is a free and open software project. Lately he has
been unable to play nice, and it is time that it ended.

Many of these points have come up in discussion in the past several months, and
never once has their been a concession. Instead the 'heavy handed' approach to
handling the project has continued and as many developers have stated, gotten
worse.

With how Bruce has presented himself to me, *if* we are able to make him leave
this position I'm sure this will mean his entire abandonment of the project. This is a
shame because his technical expertise and coding has been instrumental in many
parts of Debian. Unfortunately his removal from the leadership position is now
instrumental in the ability of the Debian project to properly continue, even though
his work will always remain a welcome addition.

If Bruce really cares about the free and open future of the Debian Project, he will
cede his position immediately. Much (private) discussion has gone on about
forming a new distribution based on how the old Debian used to be. This is my last
attempt at my inclusion and 'fixing' the Debian distribution, and if it does not
succeed I (and others with discontent) will turn my efforts to that.
