xfree3.3 & german keyb & /usr ro
hallo,
i recognized that the "german keyboard extensions"
of Xfree 3.3 won't work when /usr is mounted readonly.
my system:
Debian 1.3.1
XFree 3.3
/etc/X11/XF86Config with entry:
XkbModel "pc102"
XkbKeymap "xfree86(de)"
XkbLayout "de"
XkbVariant "nodeadkeys"
X complains that it cannot use the "compliled keyboard
map" (i don't have the exact message here).
X tries to write into
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/compiled
which is readonly.
my suggestion is to link this directory
to the /var file system, e.g.
ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/compiled /var/..???...compiled
any comments, suggestions ?
