Happens to me all the time on my machine running Caldera COL-Standard.
Have to hit the reset button.  The machine is still producing output to
the screen (xload is updating) but will accept no input from keyboard or
mouse.  I have had this problem before with XFree86 on another machine. I
never had the problem with Accellerated-X.

It is some kind of a problem with XFree on certain hardware. It occurs
seemingly at random but during periods of fast keyboard input.
